(Merced, CA) Team Centurion Boats 7-time World Champion Wake Surfer, Bri Chmel announced her retirement last week on Facebook. As a trailblazer of the sport, a pillar of the Centurion Boats pro team and a great example of character and grace in competition, Bri will be missed at tournaments. She has cemented her legacy as a permnent part of the wake surfing landscape. Bri is retiring from professional wake surfing to pursue her career in medical sales. She will continue to wake surf and share her passion for the sport with others through clinics. Centurion Boats wishes her nothing, but continued success in all of her future endeavors.
On the Centurion Boats Pro Team as a competitive wake surfer since 2006, Bri has been dominating the sport for nearly a decade. Since that time she has captured 7 World Wake Surfing Championships in the Women’s Skim division. The ladies competing at the 2015 World Wake Surfing Championship will not be tested directly against this season pro, but they will have a large task in living up to her legacy competitiveness and professionalism.
Rick Lee, the founder of Centurion Boats, posted this personal message in response to Bri’s retirement. “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Bri Chmel on her announced retirement from competition and her amazing accomplishments in the sport of Wake Surfing, both on and off he water. Bri has not only reigned as a seven time World Champion, she has grown to be a true professional and has inspired many to work hard and try to follow in her footsteps. Bri’s commitment to her sport as well as her commitment to the Centurion Brand runs through their veins. She has been a true leader for our team. Well done Bri!”
While Bri will continue to wake surf and share her passion for the sport with others through clinics, but she will not be competing professionally any longer. Instead Bri will be dedicating her time to her professional medical sales career with a healthy dose of coaching on the side. Just like her transition from snowboarding to wake skating to wake surfing over the last decade, her move from professional wake surfing competition to coaching is sure to be ground-breaking.
Congratulations on a wonderful wake surfing career, Bri. We at Centurion Boats appreciate all you have done for the sport and for our brand. We wish you continued success in everything you choose to do from here.
