(April 4, 2025) Lake Pleasant, AZ- Day 1 of the Century Marine Wild West Wake Surf Shootout presented by Centurion Boats went off with a bang! This was thanks in big part to the WWA, now administering the Centurion Wake Surfing World Series (WSWS). The weather and the competition was wild! The windy chilly Arizona morning did not stop 89 wake surfers who traveled in from across the country from competing for a top score on day 1 of the event. Towed by a 2025 Centurion Ri245, the competitors at the Wild West Wake Surf Shootout kicked-off the season with impressive scores after throwing advanced tricks behind the most sold boat in the Centurion boats lineup.
After a morning of choppy water, the water became more calm than Melanie from Century Marine could recall. It was perfect timing to run the largest adaptive division at a Centurion WSWS event ever! Arizona Adaptive Water Sports (AAWS) encouraged these athletes to attend as well as supported them at the event. They all rode wonderfully! AutumnSpence and Jordan Koeninger are leading the group heading into Day 2 in stand-up and sit surfing respectively.
For the first time at a WSWS event, competitors had the opportunity to compete in the Foil Straps division. Team Centurion athlete, Tyler Stewart along with Hayden Scoffield and Chad Carlson, showed off advanced tricks during the debut of the division. It was amazing to watch flips being thrown from a surf wave behind the Ri245. Chad Carlson took the high score of the day in this inaugural event.
Team Centurion showed up and showed out in the Pro Men Surf division. Team Centurion athlete, Connor Burns threw some incredible tricks and earned the high score of the day followed by his teammates Tyler Stewart and Keenan Flegal in second and third places.
Whitely Stewart, Team Centurion athlete, dominated the Pro Women Skim division taking the top spot of the day. Whitely will head into finals today with Emma Galusha who had the second highest score of the day, Team Centurion athlete, Ava Stewart, and Faith Byram.
